ANTI-RACISM DISCIPLESHIP

Indigenous Heritage and Experience

Before you begin:

Reflect on what you were taught about Indigenous people when you were in K-12 and think about the intellectual impact these messages may have had.

Week One:

Watch this interview between Tony Campolo and Richard Twiss

Week Two:

Watch the lecture Indigenizing Salvation by Dr. Andrea Smith

Week Three:

Watch Broken Treaties (documentary)

Week Four Discussion:

Discuss what you have learned with a friend or family member.

Reflection & Discussion Questions:

Questions for reflection & discussion after you have engaged the content.

  1. How do these resources challenge my understanding of history?

  2. Construct a question that you would like to ask someone else who has watched these three videos. What question would you ask? How would you answer it? Be prepared to share your question with others.

  3. How does thinking about the Indigenous experience help us become better Christians?

Spiritual Praxis:

Spiritual praxis to engage in throughout the month: Conversations

Have intentional conversations this month in which you:

  • Listen - be in a conversation where you are primarily listening with minimal response

  • Share - be in a conversation where you are sharing something you are learning

  • Lament - be in a conversation where you are being vulnerable about the struggle

  • Reconcile - be in a conversation in which you are trying to connect and create a bridge

Praxis Question: What did you learn in the conversations you engaged in this month?
