Director of Community corner - OPEN NOW
PURPOSE
Trinity Covenant Church (Salem, OR) is seeking a part-time (30hr/week) Director for its Community Corner Program. The Community Corner program (Monday-Friday, 2:15-5:30 pm) is an important part of Trinity Covenant Church’s ministry to the Salem Community. It provides free after-school-care for children (1st to 5th grade) in our neighborhood and support to Liberty Elementary School. Under the general direction of the Lead Pastor and in conjunction with other staff and a ministry team, the Director coordinates and oversees the implementation of a safe, nurturing, and well supervised environment that provides an atmosphere where children can experience God's love and grow socially. This role also includes recruiting and overseeing program volunteers as well as the development of supportive relationships with parents and Liberty Elementary School staff. NOTE: It is not required that the Director be a member of Trinity Covenant Church, though a commitment to Christian faith and a church community is required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development
Works with the Lead Pastor, other staff, and volunteers to develop a program vision, and necessary policies, and procedures that align with Trinity's value statements and overall ministry.
Implements educational, enrichment, and recreational activities that are fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate and that integrate character development, fitness, and interpersonal skills.
Works with church staff to provide appropriate faith-based activities for children where they can learn of and experience the love of God.
Provides opportunities for connections between Corner children/families, and Trinity staff and congregation members.
Establishes and maintains strong connections with parents and Liberty Elementary School.
Establishes a process for ongoing volunteer recruitment, coordination, training, coaching, and supervision to ensure a committed and effective team of volunteers, including middle and high school students.
Creates and implements standards for behavior and behavior management. Communicates program model, policies, and procedures with Trinity staff, volunteers, Corner parents and Liberty Elementary School.
Researches, proposes, and implements program improvements and grant opportunities.
Program Management
Communicates to children and volunteers an attitude of respect and caring for the condition of the church facility and grounds to ensure a welcoming and attractive appearance for all who use the church.
Operate the Community Corner program in compliance with TCC policies, child protection policies and state regulations for abuse reporting.
Immediately reports and documents all injuries or incidents using established procedures for communication with parents, staff, and as appropriate, with authorities and insurance providers.
Enroll students in accordance with program policies and retain necessary attendance and student records to ensure state, federal, grant and other required compliance.
Maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other matters.
Communicate through an email newsletter with church staff/leadership, parents, and Liberty School regarding Community Corner to develop rapport, build relationships and support.
Lead and supervise fitness activities, monitor behavior, oversee curriculum and related program activities, and maintain quality control across all aspects of the program.
Monitor staff, volunteer and student behavior and provide feedback regarding appropriateness and compliance with policies and procedures.
Other Duties
In conjunction with the Lead Pastor and church leadership, establish, and provide leadership to the Community Corner Ministry team.
Attend weekly church staff meetings (Tuesdays @ 10 am-Noon), and other meetings and trainings as required.
Maintain an ongoing line of communication with the Salem Leadership Foundation and other local, county and state entities that may provide support for the Community Corner program.
Evaluate and supervise the Community Corner Assistant.
Prepare annual program budget and annual meeting written report.
Submit timecards/payroll records, incident reports, rosters, receipts, and other program related records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Associates degree with preference for a BA/BS degree
Two years' experience working with children in a classroom, after school, or recreation environment
Excellent communication, planning, and program management skills
Must have a First Aid and CPR certification or the willingness and ability to receive such certification
Must be able to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with church staff, school staff, public officials, and parents.
Ability to evaluate, prioritize, schedule tasks and plan for each day.
Ability to manage and supervise large groups.
Ability to communicate spiritual concepts to children.

COMPENSATION
This is a part-time, 30hr/week position, for 10 months
This is a salaried position with a pay range of $22.50 – 26.00/hr. Salary will be determined based upon education and experience
